Peter Schmeichel worked alongside Jamie Carragher on a lively night in Dortmund as the Liverpool legend caused chaos

Peter Schmeichel admits he can't believe Jamie Carragher got away with his antics at Borussia Dortmund after the Liverpool legend infamously sat in the Yellow Wall with home supporters for their Champions League semi-final victory over Paris Saint-Germain in May.

Carragher claimed he drank eight pints while watching the match with Dortmund supporters, which they won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Niclas Fullkrug, before he emerged to conduct an impromptu interview with Jaden Sancho with Schmeichel live on air.

Joining Manchester United legend Schmeichel in the studio, pundits Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Alessandro Del Piero, along with presenter Kate Abdo, were in hysterics back in the CBS studio as Carragher proceeded to initiate and conduct the hilarious, interview with Dortmund star Sancho.

Schmeichel would later reveal Carragher 'upset everyone' and even managed to upset UEFA officials in the stadium with his behaviour. And speaking on the latest edition of The Overlap, Carragher praised Schmeichel for 'getting him out of there alive' before the Dane explained what happened behind the scenes.

Carragher explained: "Peter looked after me in Dortmund, got me out of there alive.

"We were all mates, the people I was with. I said I wanted to go in the yellow wall. It was a bit of bravado. I didn't really mean it. The show producers then asked if I really wanted to go. But in a Champions League game, the home team are not in charge of the stadium, UEFA take control of the stadium. So you have to go through them. Dortmund said yes I could go in the yellow wall, but UEFA said no. But I just went in.

"So I went in, stood by a bar (on the terrace). It was like being in the eighties in England. There were a couple of cameras at the start and people started to realise what it is (and started to come over).

"I was then in this little gang of people an they started to bring back pints. I never asked for them to get me a drink, they kept coming back with pints. So then I had to go and get some too. So it wasn't the plan (initially)."

He added: "I had my Dortmund scarf on (in the post-match interviews) and then we got Jaden Sancho in a headlock!

Schmeichel responded: "That you got away with saying that live on air, I don't get how that happened. He even said he had eight pints!

"So I'm there, my job is to do two minutes before the game a couple of times, and then after the game I go to do some interviews in the flash zone, where UEFA are really, really strict. The fella at Dortmund, he's the strictest of the lot. So we turned the camera towards the yellow wall and he comes sprinting, and he goes 'you can't do that' and he tells me off saying we are not allowed to go in the yellow wall. He was angry."

"You (Carragher) then told the studio you had eight pints and you're very loud! The people next to us are trying to do interviews and they are saying shush! You can see Jaden.. he wants to get away.

"The problems we had afterwards. I went to Dortmund the next round and I got nothing.. They were a little bit cross with us."
