Manchester United defender Harry Maguire said "definitely, yeah" when asked a question about whether he still believed in Erik ten Hag after a chaotic 3-3 draw against Porto on Thursday.

Ten Hag was placed under enormous pressure following the weekend's hammering against Tottenham and needed a victory against Porto to ease the scrutiny on his position.

United surrendered a two-goal advantage against Porto and the Portuguese side looked set to claim a 3-2 win until Maguire scored a dramatic late equaliser in added time.

Although Maguire's goal rescued a draw for United, the performance felt like the beginning of the end for Ten Hag and Aston Villa away from home on Sunday is a must-win fixture.

International breaks are synonymous with managerial changes and Ten Hag is likely to be sacked if United are defeated this weekend.

After the draw with Porto, Maguire emerged to fulfil media duties and after giving his assessment of the performance, he discussed Ten Hag's future after a poor start to the season.

Maguire was asked by TNT Sports whether he believed in Ten Hag and responded: "Yeah, definitely. To be honest, I think I've played for this club for six years and I know how it works.

"When you go through a bad spell, players come under pressure and the manager does. He's experienced enough, been in the game and at this club long enough to learn how to deal with it. It's part and parcel of playing and managing for this club. It's part of the privilege you have."

Maguire was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer of 2019 and has played under the Norwegian, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick and Ten Hag during his time at United.
