One of the big questions people had going into this first season with Arne Slot as Head Coach was how would he make this team his own? It’s almost entirely the team squad crafted by Jürgen Klopp, with very little movement in or out during the summer transfer window.
Ryan Gravenberch arrived on Merseyside last season but never earned a consistent place in Klopp’s side. Slot, however, has put a lot of faith in the midfielder in the first few games of this season. It hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Anfield faithful. Gravenberch has won the season’s first Player of the Month award on the back of some fine performances. He managed to beat out Luis Díaz, who also had an excellent September.
He started in all but one game last month and was a big influence on their winning run to start the season.
Asked about the honor, Gravenberch said, “If you win the Player of the Month it’s really nice. It’s also my first one, so I’m a little bit proud as well. Obviously we have a really good team, really good players. Luis had four goals in September, so I think it’s hard to choose between me and him, but I want to thank the fans that they chose me.”
Thankfully, there was no shortage of players worthy of recognition to kick off Slot’s reign. Let’s hope that the Player of the Month competition remains fierce fas we continue through the season.
