West Ham United have reportedly made a move to sign a highly decorated striker steeped in experience.

Julen Lopetegui has one main priority now, and that is to sign a top-class centre-forward for West Ham before the summer transfer window slams shut.

It has been widely reported that that is indeed his main priority, so that’s good news for the Hammers fans.

Michail Antonio has been a fine servant for West Ham over the past nine years, but his time at the top has definitely come to an end now.

Bringing in an upgrade on the Jamaican could be the difference between us finishing inside the top seven and missing out.

And now, Lopetegui has apparently settled on someone in particular…

West Ham make approach for striker in the summer transfer window

Lopetegui is clearly desperate to bolster his centre-forward ranks before the new Premier League campaign kicks off.

Signing a top-class striker is something that the Hammers have historically struggled with, especially over the past five years.

Now Lopetegui is apparently attempting to succeed where those before him failed, by bringing a very well known name to the London Stadium.

According to a report from Tuttosport, West Ham have made a formal approach to sign Arkadiusz Milik from Juventus.

I have to say, I’m not overly excited about this link, I must be honest.

The 30-year-old Juve hitman bagged eight goals in 36 games last season, and has scored 178 goals for club and country throughout his career to date.

He’s a very good striker, and has proven himself at the very highest level over a sustained period of time.

However, I can’t help but feel that we should be targeting a younger striker with huge potential – someone like Aston Villa ace Jhon Duran.

The 73-capped Poland international is definitely on the downward curve of his career now, and there are plenty of better strikers out there available, including the likes of the aforementioned Duran, Jonathan David and Ivan Toney.

Who knows, perhaps our supposed move to sign Milik is being used to flush out Villa in the Duran chase – we’ve used that tactic before and it wouldn’t surprise me one little bit if the Hammers board were up to their old tricks again.

Arkadiusz Milik wouldn’t be a bad signing for West Ham in the summer transfer window, but only if he joins us on a short-term deal, alongside someone like Duran.
