Liverpool supporters saw their hopes of an extension for Trent Alexander-Arnold dashed after theories were raised on social media. The Reds academy graduate and vice-captain is into the final 12 months of his current contract at Anfield as reports of interest from Real Madrid swirl.
The England defender is one of three players facing uncertainty over their futures with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah left with one year remaining on their deals. On Tuesday, a picture emerged on social media of seats covered in the newly-developed Anfield Road Stand in L4.
Quickly, fans began delivering theories over whether there was a hidden message behind the blue sheets which insinuated that an announcement for the 25-year-old's new contract was imminent. Suggestions that a '66' and '2027' were beneath the covers, hinting at a three-year deal for Alexander-Arnold.

However, the real reason for the work in the Anfield Road stand was that the front edge of the roof was undergoing repair work with reports that the covers have been in place for at least a week.
Alexander-Arnold was among the names left out of the initial 28-man squad that travelled to Pittsburgh for the next stage of pre-season preparations for Arne Slot's side. Following England's route to the final, Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez have been afforded a break.
Among the absentees for Slot's first trip away from Kirkby were academy graduates Jayden Danns and Bobby Clark. First-teamers Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai joined Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott on the flight to the USA, while Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are next in line.
Slot will take charge of his first game as Reds head coach in Pennsylvania against Real Betis on Saturday (July 27) before back-to-back encounters against Premier League opposition in Arsenal and Manchester United.
