England are looking for a new manager and Harry Redknapp has heard that The FA are set to make an approach for one Premier League manager.

The Three Lions managed to battle their way to the Euro 2024 final despite not exactly being at their best in Germany.

England met Spain in the final but just came up short with a 2-1 defeat in Berlin.

Mikel Oyarzabal grabbed the late winner for Spain, meaning England have now lost back-to-back finals in the European Championships.

That defeat proved to be the final game in charge for Gareth Southgate as he decided to step down.

Gary Neville showed his appreciation for Southgate’s work in charge of England but the search for his successor is now on.

Harry Redknapp on Eddie Howe

HITC understands that The FA had been bracing for Southgate’s departure and had eyed up a number of candidates.

Ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter and current England Under-21 coach Lee Carsley are in the mix alongside Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe.

HITC also understands that Howe would find it difficult to turn down the England job if an offer arrives.

Howe has seen Newcastle bring in a new sporting director in Paul Mitchell and will be looking for clarification of just how much power he still holds at St James’ Park.

The FA may well sense a chance to land Howe and Harry Redknapp has now shared some information.

Howe was Redknapp’s first signing at Portsmouth in 2002 and the pair have great mutual respect for each other.

Redknapp has now told TalkSPORT (23/07, 12pm) that he has heard from people ‘in the know’ that England are ready to launch an approach for Howe.

Redknapp believes that an offer will arrive ‘pretty soon’ and Howe may well decide that now is the time to jump ship and leave Newcastle to manage his country.

“If things don’t work at Newcastle, he could lose his job in a year, eight months, who knows? You’re only probably six games away from getting the sack in this game, it can be that difficult can’t it?” said Redknapp. “You have a bad run and suddenly the fans, everybody, social media, it can be very difficult, so he may well decide that yeah, now is the time.”

“It may not come again in a year, it may do, but I would think if Eddie gets the offer to do it… I have heard one or two rumours already from people in the know that they’re ready to make an approach for Eddie pretty soon,” he added.

Carsley may well be picked to take over if England don’t have a manager in place by the time the September international break comes around.

Potter’s immediate availability also makes him very appealing, so Howe is certainly the most difficult of the three to land.

The FA would have to negotiate a compensation deal with Newcastle and convince Howe that now is the time to leave club management for the international scene.

That won’t be easy but Howe’s outstanding work at Newcastle makes him a very strong candidate – and possibly the top target for The FA if Redknapp and his sources are to be believed.
